The purchase made by Christian Christiansen in 1947 changed the course of his business. He bought a plastic injection-molding machine, which allowed the company to create plastic toys in larger quantities and with a greater variety.

Ole Kirk Christiansen

Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter was the one who invented LEGO the company that was created in Billund, Denmark, in 1932. When the regular work of carpentry slowed up in the midst of the Great Depression, he decided to create wooden toys from the wood scraps from his workshop. The first toys he created were small ironing boards, stepladders and even a miniature iron they sold under the Danish name "leg godt" (play well).

A dark night in 1942 saw the shop burn down, along with all of its stock and blueprints. But, as a matter of duty to his workers and his family, he rebuilt the shop.

Christiansen purchased a plastic molder in 1946. When he began to experiment with the new machine, he came up the idea of making a plastic brick. Godtfred was his son. was later to use the design to create the modern interlocking block. Its enthralling click coupling has become the basis of some of the most loved toys for construction in the world. Christiansen passed away in 1958, just a few months before his invention revolutionized global manufacturing of toys.

The first Lego set

The first Lego set, called the Town Plan was a set comprised of roads that could be paved with Lego bricks. This was the beginning of the dynamic element of play Godtfred believed was vital for children, and which is still an integral part of the Lego Group today.

In 1947 the company made a huge purchase that would revolutionize its entire business the purchase of a plastic injection moulding machine. The results were sets that included automated binding bricks as well as a plastic fish and a plastic sailor, the precursors of the Lego blocks that are still in use today.

The first LEGO construction figures were released in the year 1975. It was built of four bricks and resembled a tiny robotic. The peg-hands were different than what we have today. There were more than 50 prototypes before the final design was created and the minifigure was introduced. Next was to add wheels to the figures, opening an entirely new world of game.

Lego Bricks - The Very First Lego Bricks

The initial Lego bricks weren't the interlocking plastic blocks that would later make this brand famous. They were "automatic-binding bricks" constructed of plastic with flat bottoms and an axle over it. They were created by a process known as plastic injection molding, where melting plastic is forced into a mold.

But, they weren't successful. Many were returned due to low sales. Godtfred persevered, and after meeting with a buyer who was from the other side of the world, he saw the potential of creating an interconnected system of toys.

The company launched its first Lego human figures in 1974 The company later expanded into the smaller posable bricks we see today. In 1975, Lego began selling more advanced sets for children of a certain age that would later be known as Lego Technic. The sets included small components such as gears, universal joints and levers. This would lead to the introduction of the stud-and-coupling mechanism that allows Lego pieces to be connected together to create more intricate models.

The first Lego People

While they're the most well-known part of Lego sets, they weren't an important innovation until later in the company's history. The first Lego minifigures were produced in the mid 70s, or in 1975 to be precise.

The figures are based off police officers and astronauts Both of them appear more realistic than existing toy soldiers. It was a huge leap forward, which would make Lego sets more exciting for kids.

LEGO also released skin tones for the first time. But it was a long time before they included a female face that was not white. The first female heads pictured smiling were released in 2002, and it's been more than 30 years since they introduced an older head that was coded which means they're not where they want to be in terms of the diversity. They're improving, but they still have a long way to take.
