Repetition Reaps Rewards!

Repetition Reaps Rewards!
By: May McCarthy

I am a big believer in the value of repetition.  Athletes, musicians, surgeons, and others who have excelled in their professions can point to repetition as a tool for their success.  I agree!  That’s why I include the repetitive practice of creating, speaking, and imagining goal achievement statements in the daily practice that is outlined in my book The Path to Wealth. I believe that it is important to revisit your goals daily so that your subconscious and intuition can show up more often in more obvious ways to help point you towards attaining your goals.

Another benefit is that you will change your beliefs so that you can welcome your goals to arrive sooner. Muhammad Ali, one of the world’s greatest boxers said; “It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.” And, Earl Nightingale, a respected author and motivational speaker, said “Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.” Repetition changes your beliefs and once that happens, your goals will be achieved sooner and the results will last longer.

For example, I know of a woman who wanted to be a professional singer.  Every day she followed the Seven Spiritual Steps that she learned from my book and workshop to achieve her goals.  She created goal attainment statements like: “I am so grateful that I am now a professional singer who is paid well to use my talents and skills in wonderful ways to entertain others. I feel fulfilled, satisfied, and happy to share my music with my audiences and bring them joy.” She wrote these and other goal attainment statements down daily, read them out loud with emotion and imagined being on stage in her realized goals.  For the first few months of doing this, she honestly felt like a fraud.  She didn’t believe that she could be a professional singer – she made her living as a trained scientist.  But, she kept up with the practice as I asked her to do so.

After the sixth month of repeating her goals in her daily practice, she started to feel differently.  During the imagining part of her daily practice, she could feel herself performing on stage.  Later that afternoon, she was invited by a friend to a party where there were paid performers.  As she watched the performers, she thought about being in their place and it seemed possible to her. Later in the week she was invited to another event where she met someone who was organizing a community celebration that would include all types of performing artists.  She felt an intuitive “nudge” to tell the organizer that she was a singer, so she did. The organizer invited her to audition for a part.  I’m happy to say that a week later she got her first paid agreement to be on stage as a singer.  Repetition changed this woman to believe that she could be the singer that she wanted to be. This is something that we can all do.

In his book The Brain That Changes Itself, Dr. Norman Doidge says that the brain has the capacity to rewire itself and/or form new neural pathways. Getting up every morning for what I call “the CSO meeting” where you describe your realized goals in a daily goal attainment routine are the kinds of actions that benefit from repetition. Repetition reinforces new learning and helps you to change your beliefs. To begin changing your beliefs so that you can realize your goals sooner, follow three simple steps:

  1. Write your goals down daily and be specific in describing the outcome that you want.

If the goal is bigger than you’ve ever had, then repetition will be necessary to help change your beliefs to welcome what you want into your life.  Even if you don’t see evidence of your goal being realized or your inner beliefs changing right away, I can assure you that the practice is working.  Keep it up. As you spend time each day describing your goals as though they have already been realized, your beliefs will change so that your subconscious can work with you to make those statements true.

  1. Read your goal statements out loud with emotion.

The practice of reading your goal attainment statements out loud anchors the meaning more fully within you.  This tells your brain that you’re serious about your goals manifesting.  When a goal is bigger than anything that you’ve experienced before, sometimes your brain will work against you. It won’t allow you to see possibilities to take steps towards your goals because it wants to prevent you from being disappointed. Your brain knows whether you believe you can receive something. Speaking your goals out loud daily with emotion helps to convince you to believe that achieving your goals is possible. Once you believe, you can receive.

  1. Imagine yourself achieving your desired outcomes.

As you create a clear picture of your realized goals daily in your mind, you are creating new beliefs to make those realized goals true.  As you begin to feel yourself in the realized goals, you’ll then begin to see more possibilities to take steps towards your achieved goals. A key here is to spend more time focusing on what you want to achieve rather than on negative circumstances or what others tell you that you can’t do. You get to choose what to focus your attention on. As you focus, you will receive.

Once your beliefs change through repetition, you will start to notice more possibilities and intuitive messages that point you along the path to achieve your goals.  It took the woman described above six months to believe that she could become a professional singer.  Once that happened, intuition helped her to notice invitations to parties and events to reinforce her beliefs, and it “nudged” her to speak up about auditioning for a part.  You will notice these intuitive messages too as you change your beliefs through repetition.

Repeat the steps described above every day so that you can create new beliefs to achieve all that you desire and require sooner.  All the best to you for continued success in all of your endeavors.  May you be blessed on Your Path to all that is Good!
