The Value of Intentions
I hope that you have been enjoying the lights and festivities of the Holiday Season! Now that 2019 is coming to a close it is the perfect time to look over your 2019 list of Intentions that you made at the beginning of the year to measure your accomplishments. I hope that everything on your list has manifested in remarkable, fulfilling, healthy, joyful and prosperous ways. If there are some things that you didn’t achieve or chose not to finish, bless them and let them go to make room for all that is new and wonderful in 2020. You can’t receive something new if you are filled up with regrets or self-criticism. Bless the past, let it go and make room to receive your desires.
Begin again with a new list of Intentions. The last week of December is a great time to take a deep breath, get still even for a moment, and plan for a New and great year ahead. What are your intentions for this New Year of 2020? To help you with this process to create powerful intentions, ask yourself the questions outlined below:
1. What is my purpose – why am I here to do what I do?
Purpose is the “why” that you are here to do what you do. This is more than your personal mission statement; it’s why you have come to do something in this life. Living a purpose driven life provides greater satisfaction, wellness and prosperity. Jack Canfield said “If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily.” I agree. One of the best ways to discover your purpose is to answer a few questions and see what common theme or phrases show up in each answer.
- - What have you done repeatedly as a child that gave you great joy? e.g. My friend Steve loved to take apart broken electronics and put them back together. He liked to help fix things around the house for his parents and receive praise in return.
- - What have others told you that you were good at doing? e.g. My friend Susan is an exceptional encourager and champion for others to achieve their goals. Susan is a great revealer of truth as she asks questions that help others to find the courage, solutions, and answers within themselves.
- - What skills and talents do you feel successful in using? e.g. I make complicated issues easy to understand. I am passionate about solving problems. I empower people to take simple and effective steps to achieve what they desire in life. I take risks and am tenacious.
After answering the questions and finding the common words and phrases, see if you can put them into a sentence. e.g. Steve’s purpose is “to make other’s lives easier and less complicated.” He owns a successful plumbing business.
As you get clear on your purpose, create goals and intentions for 2020 that are in alignment with your purpose. You may find that you experience what Wayne Dyer discovered, “When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous.” Goals and intentions that relate to a person’s purpose tend to manifest in an easier and more joyful way.
2. What am I passionate about – what gives me extra energy?
Many famous people believe that if you are passionate and love what you’re doing you have a much better chance of being successful. I agree. Passion is the fuel that drives your endeavors. Oprah Winfrey adds “Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” The key is to spend time focusing your attention and actions on what excites you – what you’re passionate about. To begin, take a look at how you’re using your time today. Make a list of everything that you do each day, each week and each month. Separate all of these things into two categories.
- - The A category includes those things that you love to do and you feel successful in doing.
- - The B category includes those things that you currently do which you don’t really enjoy but must do because there isn’t anyone else to do them.
After completing these lists, use your daily goal attainment practice as described in my books The Path to Wealth and The Gratitude Formula “to be grateful that you are using your skills and talents in fulfilling, satisfying and passionate ways to help and support your company, family, and others in your life.” Also, declare gratitude that you are fully supported with the right peoples and resources at all times to complete all that you are required to do with grace and in perfect ways.
One of your intentions for 2020 is to do more of what you’re passionate about in all areas of your life.
US Olympic Gold Medalist, Mia Hamm reminds us that “If you don’t love what you do, you won’t do it with much conviction or passion.” Being open to the possibility that you can spend most or all of your time doing what you love to do is important. There are lots of people who love to do what you don’t like to do. So, you’re doing them a favor by giving up what you don’t enjoy. This allows someone else to be passionate about the same work.
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do,” according to Steve Jobs. I hope that you find by the end of 2020 that you’ve been spending more time with your “A” list along with new activities that you’re passionate about, and doing the great work that you love to do.
This is a wonderful time of year to plan for tremendous new experiences. Take the time to discover your Purpose and Passion and use your daily practice to program your brain for success each day. Create at least one Intention in each major area of your life that is in alignment with your Purpose and Passion; your health, relationships, use of skills and talents, finances, recreation and Spiritual connection As you focus on your completed intentions each day, allow your intuition to guide you to take action so that you may enjoy a Healthy, Prosperous, and Joyful 2020! May you be blessed on Your Path to all that is Good!
