I am so grateful to have been the guest speaker recently at The Center for Spiritual Living in Seattle. This is where I first started teaching success principles in classes and workshops over 10 years ago. It was such a treat to see so many friends in the two services and have a well attended workshop to share more about The Gratitude Formula.
One question that was asked in the workshop had to do with action and faith. An attendee wanted to know if she was a demonstrating “doubt” and lack of trust in her ability to grow a thriving and sustainable business by continuing with a part time job that supported her when she was between clients in her own business. I told her that she had to make a choice on how to view the situation. Based on that choice she would then speak and think about the situation in ways that were consistent with her views. As she took action with her words, thoughts and emotions to declare her truth in the situation, that would become her experience. She needed to choose between the following two views:
- She could view the situation as not trusting Spirit to direct and guide her to have enough clients, therefore she had to get a part time job.
- Or, she could celebrate and be grateful that Spirit is always supporting her with overflowing amounts of business and other rewarding channels to use her skills and talents in satisfying, fulfilling and supportive ways. (That includes the part time work that she does for someone else’s company.)
As you’d expect, I advised that she choose #2.
Being grateful that Spirit, as the source of her supply, is always providing more than enough for her to thrive and prosper is a healthy attitude that will produce greater prosperity and abundance. Whatever we’re grateful for will multiply in our lives. But, if we focus on lack or fear, we’ll get more of that instead. As she continues to view Spirit as her source, and proclaim gratitude for huge success in her business as well, I have not doubt that her business will continue to grow, thrive and prosper.
Television journalist and business woman, Deborah Norville reminds us that quantifiable benefits are received when expressing gratitude. “What I've learned is there's a scientifically proven phenomenon that's attached to gratitude, and that if you consciously take note of what is good in your life, quantifiable benefits happen.” I agree! Not only have studies shown that our overall health and well being is improved when we express gratitude, but we magnetize ourselves to receive more of the things that we’re grateful for.
Oprah Winfrey said it this way, “Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.” The good news here is that you get to choose; be grateful for what you have (and what you want) or focus on lack.
If so many famous and successful people have produced greater results from expressing gratitude, why aren’t we all doing it? Perhaps it’s because we are allowing others to program our minds. If you wake up and immediately read the news or social media pages, you are allowing others to determine what’s important for you to focus on. You’re allowing them to program your subconscious for you. As a result, you will notice more things that are in alignment with that programming.
If instead, you wake up and immediately choose to be grateful for what you have and be grateful for what you want (as though you already have it), then you will notice more evidence and possibilities of those things manifesting in your life. The point here is that you get to choose. Choose wisely and use the right words.
Another interesting study indicates that your subconscious doesn’t recognize negatives. If you say, “I don’t like this situation”, your subconscious won’t recognize “don’t like” and will show you evidence and possibilities of that situation growing and becoming larger in your life. But, if you say “I’m so grateful, happy and free, living in a world of peace and respect with everyone. We have all that we need to live happy, healthy, and safe lives in lawful ways. We live in peace and harmony, now and always.” You will start to notice evidence of this happening and how you can help promote it. You may even get inspired through intuitive thoughts and ideas to take other action to create this peaceful and harmonious world that you’re describing. Gratitude and using your right words is key.
Be grateful for what you have. Be grateful for what you want and word your goals as though you’ve achieved them. This will enable you to become magnetic to the things that you desire. Try this out for a minimum of 30 days and prove this to yourself. May you be blessed, prospered, happy, and healthy now and always.
